Sangha Offering 2021

As part of Special Interest Area badgework , we participated in the Sangha Offering Day (aka Ullambana Festival; or Buddha's Joyful Day) at Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Temple Western Australia - 佛光山西澳道場.

"The belief is that on this day, it allows people to uphold the Buddha’s teaching of filial piety by supporting the Sangha. The Origin of Ullambana and Making Offerings to Sangha is for Buddhist laity to offer a meal to the Buddha and the Sangha as an act of reverence. Through this meaningful and meritorious act it allows the Sangha to practice without obstructions and cultivate merits for ourselves and our ancestors." ~ Sourced from https://www.nantien.org.au/.../ullambana-festival-sangha-day

Our group also presented a dance to the public on that day complete with our own muscial talents (video to come, so watch this space!)

After presenting the offerings, we partook in sutra chanting, and learnt about the meanings of the Sangha Day. We then shared a meal in our beautiful grand hall at the Temple (aka our Scout Hall).

Despite a few hours gone, our Scouts had learnt much about Budhhism, the community and some of its teaching for this special day. I am sure a lot of good Karma credits has been earnt! (and the badge too!)
